kinda like going into Libya, only in reverse at so many levels....

Gotta love how for all of Russia's blusterous behavior about the West daring to interfere in Syria, they're the ones doing it most... hypocrisy at its best (or worst, depending on how you view it).
Here's a very plausible scenario: what might happen when (and yes, note that I say when, not if) the Assad regime falls and the Syrian opposition tries to take control of Tartus (i'm guessing it'll be last after the other two ports of influence, Latakia and Baniyas)? Does anyone else think that the Russian troops, all alone in what would become a pretty hostile country, would hesitate to shoot at approaching Syrians?
I, for one, think not.

If Russia is the next to have a revolution, it'll be poetic justice.

Note the post from a few days back with Putin fighting an Islamic terror based campaign in his country already.

I'd love to see a revolution there too, and a shift from the centuries old paranoia of that nation, and using it's resources to help the World's economies and to reduce tensions world wide.

I'm just sad to see outside outside government and corporate interests taking sides in this at all, no matter which side they are on.

The more I have informed myself on Syria the more obvious it has become that the anti-government forces are a minority of the population. A statistically significant minority perhaps, but still one that cannot claim to represent the views of the population at large.

What your actually discussing here is revolutionary war against a legitimate standing government and being fought by a minority. Why in the name of God should we get involved in that? Giving the rebels arms and financial support will only result in more bloodshed and deaths, not less.

Then there is the fact that while the Assad government is not exactly pro-western or Israeli the rebel faction seems to be from their supporters statements even less so. I simply do not understand why many people seem to feel we should be supporting the rebels.

re: #5 Tiny Alien Kitties are Watching You

Um, because Assad is the one mass murdering civilians? Just a blind guess.

Btw, how many revolutions are fought by the majority of people? Typically, a large minority taking up arms is as good as it gets.

If you think we shouldn't get involved because it'll cause problems for us, say that. If you think the rebels aren't exactly trust-worthy, say that. But...

I never again want to hear a single word in defense of that mass murder Assad. Targeting entire cities of his own people pretty much makes "legitimacy" a moot point. A government outright attacking its own people ain't a government at all.

Not to mention that Assad is also having journalists and all other outside observers killed. One simply doesn't do that unless they're hiding something real ugly.

Funny how I just watched a BBC report from Homs where the reporter showed how devasted some of the rebel blocks were and then went a few blocks over and showed bustling streets and open shops where life was apparently going on as normal in a non-rebel controlled/allied section of the city...

Your "Targeting ENTIRE cities" statement is nothing but hyperbole and propaganda. But thanks for playing...

re: #7 Tiny Alien Kitties are Watching You

My bad. I forgot that it doesn't count if some blocks are spared. It has to be H-bomb style devastation, or else its just hyperbole.

Oh, and here is some propaganda from a jingoistic organization called Amnesty International.
